Album review: Carly Pearce's self titled album

Time for another album review, this time I am reviewing the amazing self title second album from US country singer Carly Pearce. This woman has an incredible voice and her debut album Every Little Thing is absolutely amazing, I loved her as much as I love Luke Combs (if you read my review of his second album you will know that is a lot - if you didn't check it out here) so you can imagine that I had great expectations for her second album and she most definitely did not disappoint.
This album hasn't been massively successful commercially as it only peaked at 73 in the US and didn't chart anywhere else, her first album peaked at 32, so this is quite a drop in performance unfortunately.
As you can tell I really loved this album it just builds on the impression Carly gave with her first album, she has an amazing voice and can convey so much emotion in every song, I am so glad I discovered her. It is a great collection of songs, with love, heartbreak, Success and Failure among the themes Carly sings about. When I compare this album to her first album, although Every Little Thing has the slight edge, I would definitely say they are almost equal and that makes it an even better experience listening to this album.
This album contains two duets, which she had none of on her first album, one of them is with Lee Brice a largely successful country singer and the other is with Michael Ray her husband and fellow country singer. Firstly I Hope You're Happy Now with Lee is brilliant, the song itself is about wishing an ex well and it works perfectly as a collaboration, Carly and Lee's voices blend really well together and give both sides of the story making this a thoroughly enjoyable collaboration. The second collaboration Finish Your Sentences with Michael gives us an insight into their relationship with the title being literal as they go back and forth in the song plus it really shows of the chemistry they have which gives the song a whole different feel and very much reminds me of The Rest Of Our Lives by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (from their collaborative album of the same name).
My favourite song on the album is Closer To You, to put it simply it is perfect. This is the first song released from this album and as soon as I heard it I couldn't wait for the album to be released, I had to wait over 3 months but it was worth it. I love the message of the song being about wanting to be close to the one you love no matter where you are, I identify with this a lot because that's what my relationship is like with my wife, there is just that level of closeness you can only have with the one you love. Carly's voice is flawless as she puts all her love and wanting into this song, making you feel the same way, it's so uplifting aswell which puts me in a great mood when I hear it.
Honourable mentions go to It Won't Always Be Like This and You Kissed Me First. Let's start with It Won't Always Be Like This, another perfect song, this is about when she left home to go to Nashville and further her singing career. You can hear in the way Carly sings this that it was not an easy journey but she made it and the lightness of her voice in the chorus conveys the joy she has found both professionally and personally. Then we come to You Kissed Me First, this song is great and fun all about the guy making all the moves but in the right way. Carly sings with a bit of a laugh in her voice and makes it overall upbeat and fun which makes it a great listen when you want to be uplifted.

To finish here are my ratings for all the songs on the album;

1. Closer To You - 10/10
2. Call Me - 9/10
3. I Hope You're Happy Now with Lee Brice - 9.5/10
