Album review: Labrinth, Sia and Diplo Presents LSD

After not getting round to an album review last week here is the first of two (hopefully) this week, my wife chose the album for this review and is the album LSD a collaboration between British singer-songwriter-producer-musician Labrinth, Australian Singer-songwriter Sia and American DJ-producer Diplo. Considering I have enjoyed the majority of each artists music it is not surprising that I was really excited about their collaborative album and it certainly lived up to expectations being an incredible blend of the three styles. Unfortunately this album under performed in the charts despite the power of the group, it peaked at number 44 in the UK, number 49 in Australia and 70 in the US.
From the moment I heard that this collaborative album was happening I got very excited and intrigued as to what they would come out with. Then I heard the first single Genius and it proved everything I was expecting, incredible psychedelic dance pop with powerful vocals and interesting lyrics, throughout you can hear the individuality of each artist and the new united sound they have made together.
My favourite song on the album is Thunderclouds, a perfect example of what I said above, the vocals are shared evenly by Sia and Labrinth whose voices blend well when singing together and clearly stand out on their own. The production of the song sounds very much like Diplo lead it but has clear influences from Labrinth and has been influenced by the way Sia sings as the music rises and falls with her voice. The overall sound is a fun bubbly upbeat song even though the lyrics are about difficulties in a relationship, essentially thunderclouds is a metaphor of the emotional struggles faced.
Honourable mentions here go to Heaven Can Wait and Genius. Firstly Heaven Can Wait similarly to Thunderclouds it balances the styles of the three artists, Sia takes more of a lead here so it has a bit more of her style. It also keeps the bubbly upbeat sound and has more upbeat lyrics, being about wanting to live. Then there is Genius, the first song they released as a trio which is just brilliant, this definitely blends everything of each artist together really well. The song is split evenly between Sia and Labrinth with several sections being a bit of a back and forth between them, Diplo even sings an interlude type bit. It's a really fun and catchy song that lifts the spirits and shows just how well the three artists work together.

Finally it's time for the ratings of each song;
1. Welcome To The Wonderful World Of - 7.5/10
2. Angel In Your Eyes - 8.5/10
3. Genius - 9.5/10
4. Audio - 9/10
5. Thunderclouds - 10/10
6. Mountains - 8/10
7. No New Friends - 8.5/10
8. Heaven Can Wait - 9.5/10
9. It's Time - 8/10
10. Genius Remix ft Lil Wayne - 9/10

I would love to know whether you thought this collaboration worked as well as I did.
