Album review: Becky Hill - Get To Know

It's album review time and this week I have decided to do British singer songwriter Becky Hill's debut compilation album called Get To Know released September last year, the collection contains several of her single releases and features plus some of her own unreleased songs. The album itself has been moderately successful so far peaking at number 20 however it has spent 32 weeks in the top 40, out of the 41 weeks in the top 100 (since release), of them 23 weeks have been spent in the top 30. The album contains seven top 40 singles, with five going top 20 three of which went top 10 with one number 1, that being Gecko (Overdrive) with Dutch DJ Oliver Heldens in 2014.
I have loved Becky since I first saw her first performance on The Voice UK, she has such an incredible voice and presence, I was gutted when she was knocked out in the semi-final she definitely should have won. You can imagine how happy I was when two years later she had a massive hit that makes her the only contestant from The Voice UK to get a number 1 single and she is easily the most successful contestant to come out of the show. Not only do I love Becky's impressively powerful voice but also the versatility that she has, being able to do a variety of dance styles with several different DJ's while also having a great range allowing her to provide soft vocals as well, she also writes every song she sings as well as writing songs for other people. I would say Becky is one of my favourite singers and continues to impress, my favourite song this year is her collaboration with Shift K3y called Better Off Without You. The collection of songs contains many collaborations with DJ's including Jonas Blue, Sigala, MK and Wilkinson there is also a collaboration with British singer songwriter MNEK, who she frequently writes with having written four songs on this album together.
My favourite song on this album and favourite song by Becky is I Could Get Used To This both the version with British DJ Weiss and the orchestral version, released last year and only peaking at number 45. Everything about this song is perfection, with Becky's soaring vocals taking centre stage and hitting every note effortlessly and bringing all the joy of the lyrics into her voice, the song being about getting used to being with someone you love. For the original version Weiss's production matches every note Becky belts and calms down in the chorus with her, he easily adds distinctive tones to the music without overshadowing Becky's pure voice showing off his own talent. Meanwhile the orchestral version is a slightly calmer affair with the orchestra proving the same skills but Becky's voice shines even more here and the emotion in her voice is even more evident, I didn't think I could love this song more but the orchestral version elevated it higher than I could have imagined, impressive as the original is perfect.
Honourable mentions for this album go to Afterglow with Wilkinson and Piece Of Me with MK. I shall start with Afterglow with British DJ and producer Wilkinson, this was actually the first successful single for both artists, released in 2013 and peaking at number 8. This is a song I have loved since I first heard it and I don't see that changing, it is another perfect song it is super upbeat and fun with joyful and relaxed production from Wilkinson while Becky's voice is flawless with calm choruses in between belted choruses which all comes together to make a brilliant dance song that easily gets you on your feet. Next up is Piece Of Me with American DJ MK, released in 2016 and peaking at number 37. This yet another incredible dance track providing high energy all the way through with Becky providing a big vocal for most of the song and the production supporting it blasting throughout, this was massive in clubs and it isn't exactly surprising.

Now to finish with my ratings for each song on the album;
